A woman and her two young children died when the vehicle they were in was caught and swept away in a flash flood in West Texas.
The incident happened in the morning of April 24 at a small creek just outside of Dublin, Texas.
Responders launched a rescue effort but were only able to find the husband of the woman clinging to a tree. He was transported to Texas Health Harris Stephenville Hospital.
The woman’s body was later recovered inside the swamped car. Their 7-year-old son was found 400 yards downstream, and their 3-year-old daughter was found 3 miles further downstream.
Details about how the accident happened are still not available and an investigation is already underway as of writing.
Many parts of Texas experienced heavy rains which prompted flash-flood warnings and high-water rescues. The Fort Worth Fire Department said they had responded to more than 20 high-water rescues since the first round of storms began.
Aside from the tragic accident, a freight train carrying ethanol derailed in a Forth Worth neighborhood and ignited, triggering evacuations and a hazardous materials response.
Strong winds also destroyed a warehouse near Bryan in Central Texas, while rainfall submerged dozens of vehicles in an underground garage outside the terminal at Dallas Love Field Airport.
